Buying a house has become a challenge for first-time homebuyers in the US.
Listing and mortgage prices have remained high, and only 24 percent of homebuyers were first-timers in 2024 - the lowest on record, according to the National Association of Realtors.
However, some US cities may give these buyers a fighting chance of finding their first house.
The sooner they make an offer, the better - especially in 10 cities that Realtor.com ranked as this year's best markets for first-time homebuyers.
Realtor.com scored 3,579 Census-Designated Places located within the 100 largest metropolitan areas in the US and ranked the top 10 cities that had populations of at least 5,000 with at least 500 active for-sale listings in the past year.
'The places highlighted offer opportunities for first-timers in terms of the cost of housing, availability of homes for sale, and quality of the location,' said Realtor.com Chief Economist Danielle Hale.
'Even in these high-opportunity areas, trade-offs likely need to be considered for buyers to get to the closing table.'
Out of the 10 cities featured on the list, the one that stood out from the rest is Harrisburg, the capital of Pennsylvania.
